Low-cost Intelligent Road Safety System using  Arduino Nano


Hello,
My name is Dynamic Veer  and I am 9 yrs old &  a Technology Enthusiast.
I love exploring new technologies and develop prototype on various usecases.
This time I have come up with Suraksha - A Intelligent Road Safety System for Heavy Vehicle using Ardruino Nano.


Motivation for project
The population of our country has been increasing rapidly which indirectly has increased the vehicle density , leading  to many road accidents.
The main causes of accidents include misjudgement, traffic rule violation, drunk driving, use of mobile phones, collision of vehicle with obstacles, over speeding, rash driving , negligence etc.
About 1.24 million people die each year as a result of road traffic crashes and count increases every year globally.
With the aim of saving millions of lives by improving the safety of roads, vehicles and improving emergency services, We propose an intelligent vehicle road safety system for preventing such  accidents and making the world a much better and safe place to live.




Suraksha-II “Intelligent Road Safety System”
This innovative Arduino based Intelligent Road Safety System  is designed to reduce major crash factors at low bridges, tunnels, weigh stations, underpasses, parking structures and any low-clearance hazards by:
Detecting vehicles that won't clear the structure ahead
Notifying drivers of height restrictions, bringing attention back to the road
Automated Servo Motor controlled Barrier Management on Entry Points
Visual and Audio notification to Driver
Directing drivers to a safe, alternate route
Video and SMS Notification to Emergency Control Center




Project working
we have connected ultrasonic with Arduino Nano.
1. A  set distance is set for raising alarm. in this video we have used 20 cm range for demo purpose. In actual its 20 meter warning given
2 HC-SR04 is placed at front of the bridge to sense distance at specific height.
3 all low medium vehicles less than sensor height are easily passed through bridge
4 heavy vehicle when reached near bridge send 20 cm sensor sets pins high and alerts Arduino inturn buzzer, emergency light  is turned on, also warning message displayed on billboard that "Stop your vehicle , height exceeded or take an alternate route"
5 Due to sound of the alarm driver is alerted from good distance that there is a fair chance of accident and he halts his vehicle.
6. In this way this concept can be used in tunnels/ bridge etc to set a cut-off height of vehicle and send an alarming signal before accidents happen.
